On 8 November 2010, following the general elections in Myanmar, clashes erupted between Myanmar armed forces, the Tatmadaw, the newly formed Border Guard Forces (BGF) and splinter groups of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) in Myawaddy Township opposite Mae Sot District of Tak Province, Thailand.  Several RPG exploded on Thai soil at Friendship Bridge.

Around 10,000-12,000 Myanmese displaced persons fled the fighting inside Myanmar and crossed the border into Mae Sot area.  The Thai authorities immediately informed UNHCR about the influx and asked to coordinate with NGOs about the provision of assistance to these poor people.  Most of the displaced persons were then being sheltered in one site close to the Mae Sot airfield.

On the same day, COERR attended the Thai Authorities and concerned NGOs Meeting held in order to plan for emergency assistance.  COERR Social Workers then visited the site and interviewed the displaced people to collect basic data of the vulnerable groups to make sure that they had received basic necessity supplies and to identify children who might be separated from parents or relatives. 

In response to the request of Mae Tao clinic upon their quick assessment at the temporary sites, COERR delivered children clothes and sweaters for elderly to Child Development Center (CDC), a medic school under the administration of Mae Tao clinic, for further distribution to vulnerable displaced people.

COERR also provided 2,000 pieces of sanitary napkin to Child Development Center for further distribution to displaced women in all temporary sites.
